From the Editor.....

We've had a great couple of months since the last newsletter - a working bee where quite a bit of work was done by the usual suspects, plus a couple of new bodies, had our prize giving, details of which appear elsewhere in this newsletter, and had a couple of beautiful autumn Saturday's for our Winter Series.

Our AGM is coming up on June 28 and we hope to see many of you there and welcome any new prospects for our Board.

Bob Hearn sadly leaves us as Commodore - his family want him back. He has been a fantastic Commodore. Under his guidance our Club is looking much better -such were the time and effort he put in.

Bob Green looks set to become our new Commodore. A long-term member who has always given of his time to the Club, he will bring his own personality and professionalism to the role.

Working Bee & Refunds
We had a successful working bee, most of the work our Commodore wanted to see complete has been done, thanks to mostly the 'usuals' plus a couple of our newer members, which was great.

As per our agreement, FULL MEMBERS ONLY are entitled to a $100 refund if they attended fora full day - which constitutes two half day's or one full, ie. At least eight hours worth.

Peter Todd will issue refunds to those of you who wish it, or you may leave the $100 as a donation to your Club, which is always appreciated.

A.G.M. - June 28~ 730pm at VYC
Don't forget the date to elect your preferred committee and office bearers is fast approaching and lobbying opportunities are fast fading. So get active and involve yourself this year. Please, we would like to see as many members attend this night to get involved in Club matters and what we have in store for the next year.

Winter Racing
Our popular winter racing for yachts has been enjoyable so far - the weather has been very kind to us. Come and join in the fun on the last Saturday of every month, starting at the end of this month.

If any Laser sailors would like to learn how to sail properly, they can join us. Just turn up at the club on the day, or choose your skipper and speak with him.

Same goes for 'Old Buffers' - always room for you guys. Bunny Littlewood showed the 'youngsters' a thing or two when he steered Doug Cameron's Compass 28, Saltair, to a better result than it might otherwise have had.

Old Buffers wanting to come and give it a go for a bit of exercise and nostalgia, ring Doug Cameron on: 9337 6832. We would love to see some of you on the water.

Laser Dinner
To be held at 'Benjerong' Thai restaurant, Oxford St, Bondi Junction. (Corner. Vernon Street), July lO~ at 7.OOpm for 7.30 pm. Bring your partner along for a fun night.

RSVP to Lori Bell on 0414 313 484 by the last week of June.

2003-2004 Season Prize Giving
Ninety two attended our 2003-2004 Prize Giving -another excellent evening - a full room and fabulous food from Tony Muir's kitchen'.

Tony, all but single-handedly produced hams, turkey, seafood, salads, vegies AND deserts to amply fill even the hungriest appetites.

Bunny Littlewood was presented as our newest Life Member. He is a tireless worker at our Club and can
regale you with stories back in the pre-war days. Congratulations Bunny.

We also bid farewell to David and Sue Arnold who leave on their beautiful cruising yacht in the next month or so and wish them fair weathers and a good time. We look forward to receiving interesting stories from them.

Thanks to all those who came to help on the day to make our club look good for the night.

Special thanks to Lori and Tinker Bell and Mike and Jackie Cole for donating prizes once again - it seemed fitting that Tinker won the main raffle prize - one year's membership to VYC.

Entertainment came in the form of a singing disco bloke and the irrepressible Ken Fallon and co's rendition of 'Danny Boy' had everyone singing and brought the house down - almost literally, the singing was so loud.

Congratulations to all, particularly the winners, on yet another successful series - both the Laser and yacht fleets increase each year. Winners details, too numerous for this newsletter, can be found on the VYC website, along with a couple of photos.

Club Keys
Under no circumstance are members to lend their Club key to anyone, including their own family members.
Club members MUST accompany their guests into our Club at all times.

Welcome to new members
A warm welcome to all new members -

Plans for our Club
Our outgoing Committee have tossed around various ideas for the upgrade/upkeep of our Club. At the very least, we need to replace the ceiling, put in some all-weather shades on our balcony, upgrade toilets/change rooms and replace our red carpet.

All of these things take money, some of which will come from profits from such ventures as our prize giving, other club functions and the letting of the club.

We also depend on the goodwill of members - a number have made contributions to the Club and we are always pleased to receive any donation thrown our way.

Should you wish to make a donation, you can do so by sending a cheque made out to the Club and sent to VYC, Marine Parade, Watsons Bay.

Should you like any more information or would like to speak with someone before making a donation, you can call our current Commodore, Bob Hearn or wait and speak with our new Commodore after the elections on June 28.

Alternatively, please come along to the AGM and help with the decision-making process - this is a club for all members, so we would like to hear what the general consensus is in regards to this matter.
